Central Florida Commuter Rail

What's There Now - A Look At Planned Station Locations

Sanford Station

Sanford is the northern-most station in Phase I Commuter Rail construction.  There will not only be a passenger station, but the maintenance and storage yard for Commuter Rail will be close by.  The station will be located north of SR 46 and at the end of Airport Boulevard.  There is a commercial trucking business there at present, and a power substation immediately to the east.  Downtown Sanford is 1.5 miles to the east.

A short distance from the Commuter Rail station location is the Amtrak Sanford Auto Train station as well as an abandoned Sanford Amtrak Passenger Station.  CSX has a yard here and there is a large aggregate unloading station.  The Commuter Rail Station will be to the north of all these facilities.

South on Airport Boulevard there are many light industrial and service businesses as well as single family homes.

This area is relatively undeveloped, especially to the west, and it is somewhat distant from the Sanford city center.  These factors may affect to a degree how much transit oriented development will take place in the immediate future.

However, the benefit to residents of the area who must commute to downtown Orlando and points south should be substantial given the alternatives of driving on I-4 or 17-92.
